Prompt number:

Photo prompts for active kids are easy with a few props in hand. A bubble machine is one of my favorite props for toddler photoshoots! From very young babies who can only just sit up, to those who are running about like mad thing: bubbles always work a treat.

Bubbles and dandelions: photo prompts for toddlers and young children

These prompts are also suitable for older kids, particularly if they have younger siblings in tow! Get the whole family involved and you’ll set up some great candid moments.

How to use this photo pose prompt

For this prompt, you need a bubble machine or bubble wands, or at minimum, and outdoor space with some flowers or dandelions. Photograph the play as well as the setup (parents helping kids, the mission to find flowers, etc).

The Bubble & Lace Photographic Company

Idea 1: Bubbles

  • Run a bubble machine and surround a child (or children) with bubbles. Shoot for them looking up, reaching for bubbles, jumping to pop them, etc. Move around the action to find where the light is right to get the best rainbows in the bubbles.
The Bubble & Lace Photographic Company
  • Give everyone a small bottle of bubble mix (.e.g. bring a pack bought from cheap store for weddings or parties) and have them all blow their biggest bubble, or blow bubbles all towards one person (e.g. birthday child, youngest child, etc).
  • Give a bubble wand to older kids and have them run towards the camera, or across the scene, trailing the wand to make a stream of bubbles.

Idea 2: Dandelions

  • Send the child on a mission to find flowers or dandelion puffballs and bring them back for everyone. Photograph the mission.
  • Have the family blow the dandelion seeds at each other, at the camera, pull the seeds off to make a wish, etc.
The Bubble & Lace Photographic Company
  • Photograph mom or dad helping the child, showing them how to blow the seeds off, how to lace flowers into a chain, etc.
  • Ask the child if they can see a fairy or dinosaur hiding inside the flower to get them to study it.

Creative extension

  •  Focus on the bubbles, not the child, and let them blur in the background for a creative depth-of-field effect.
